Mercy Corps Responds to Volcanic Eruption in Indonesia

by Mercy Corps

Mount Semeru, one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes, erupted on Saturday, December 4, killing more than 48 people and forcing 10,500 to flee from their homes.

Although it remains extremely difficult to reach the affected areas due to lava flows, ashy mud, fallen trees, and collapsed infrastructure, on Friday, December 11, Mercy Corps Indonesia Response Team team arrived in Lamajang district.

People urgently need shelter, clean water and food. Our emergency response partner Human Initiative is already on the ground, and Mercy Corps has 100 pre-positioned family kits ready for distribution. The kits include essential supplies such as tarps, rope, boots, soap and hygiene supplies, cooking equipment, and masks to protect people from the spread of COVID-19.

Your gift to Mercy Corps' Humanitarian Response Fund can help us meet the immediate needs of those facing crises like this volcanic eruption in Indonesia, and build a future where everyone can prosper. Thank you for your support.
