More than 4 million people in West and Central Africa are facing unprecedented flooding, with heavy rains expected to continue. This year's flooding has been one of the most severe and destructive in decades and women and children are bearing the brunt of the disaster. While floodwaters are receding, humanitarian needs remain dire, with families lacking access to clean water, food, and shelter, and the risk of waterborne diseases rising.
Mercy Corps is responding in six of the 14 most severely affected countries: Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, and Niger. Several countries, including Niger and Mali, have declared a state of national disaster. We are actively providing emergency food assistance, clean water, hygiene kits, and cash assistance. In partnership with local governments and international donors, we are also helping communities build long-term resilience against future climate shocks.
Your gift today will help mobilize our teams in response to humanitarian crises in places like Lebanon and Ukraine, support families impacted by flooding in West and Central Africa, assist communities with recovery after earthquakes in Afghanistan and Syria, and so much more.
