URGENT: Nepal flash floods – Support Prosper Global' (formerly Mercy Corps) Response

Update 9/1/26: Prosper Global (formerly Mercy Corps) is delivering food and hygiene kits to hundreds of families.

Food kits include staples: like rice, oil, noodles, and other essential and nutritious food items.

Hygiene kits are for adolescents and babies containing items like: clothing, blankets, soap, and diapers.

Our staff are in hard-hit Nuwakot district, visiting emergency evacuation shelters and speaking directly with survivors to assess continuing urgent needs. Our first distributions are only the beginning. Families will need sustained support to rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, and recover essential services.

8/26/26: At least 95 people have been killed and hundreds remain missing or unreachable after a massive flash flood tore through Nepal’s Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors on Wednesday morning. 

The flood struck with little warning, sending a surge of water reportedly up to 10 meters high (approximately 32 feet) through multiple communities.

Entire settlements have been destroyed, while early assessments indicate that 42 kilometers (26 miles) of a major highway and nearly 30 bridges have been washed away.  

More than 300 people remain stranded on isolated hillsides, including some sheltering in caves, as downstream communities remain under evacuation orders. Destroyed roads, bridges, and landing sites are severely restricting access for emergency, search and rescue, and humanitarian workers.  

Prosper Global (formerly Mercy Corps) is coordinating closely with local authorities and humanitarian partners to identify the most urgent gaps and determine how best to support emergency response efforts.
