Support UNICEF's Work in Libya

โดย UNICEF USA

Libya's humanitarian situation remains intricately tied to its complex sociopolitical environment and the enduring conflict since 2011. Despite concerted international efforts, including the UN-brokered ceasefire in October 2020 and the formation of the Government of National Unity in March 2021, the country still faces recurrent humanitarian challenges. The protracted and complex humanitarian crisis in Libya is compounded by high proliferation of weapons, armed groups, political fragmentation, migrant and refugee inflows, and the effects of climate change. As of the start of 2024, there are 580,000 people in need of humanitarian assistance in Libya, of which 130,000 are children.

During 2023, UNICEF provided essential health supplies and services for 390,000 people, scaled up also due to increased health needs caused by Daniel storm. UNICEF’s humanitarian programs in Libya aim to assist the most vulnerable children and families in collaboration with Government line Ministries, national and international non-governmental organizations, and UN sister agencies. UNICEF appealed for US$ 28.6 million to provide emergency and lifesaving services to vulnerable children, including conflict-affected children, IDPs, children on the move, children in detention centers (DCs), and their families.

Last year in 2023, UNICEF provided 390,000 children and women with access to primary healthcare in UNICEF-supported facilities; reached 85,000 people with critical WASH supplies; provided 26,000 children 6-59 months with micronutrition powder; helped 8,385 children with access to formal and non-formal education; and reached 79,792 children, adolescents, and caregivers with mental and phycological support.

With your support, UNICEF will continue this life-saving work across Libya throughout 2024.
