Americares
s we continue to respond to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, I wanted to share some powerful stories from the frontlines that illustrate the critical role your support can play as our teams on the ground are playing in helping those in need.
Our team has been deployed to some of the most heavily impacted areas, and in some cases, we were the first organization to reach these communities. In Valdosta, Georgia, for example, a town hit hard by the hurricane, we found widespread devastation. This community, with a poverty rate nearly double that of Georgia’s average, has been particularly affected. When our team arrived, we discovered homes destroyed, power and water services disrupted, and families in desperate need of assistance. South Georgia Medical Center, one of the few facilities with generator-operated power, has become a vital refuge for residents. Despite facing personal hardships, the hospital’s staff—many of whom lost their own homes—continue to work tirelessly to serve their community.
Americares is actively working to meet their needs, providing water trucks, financial support and preparing to provide emergency mental health services for both the hospital staff and the wider community.
So far, Americares has reached out to 360 partner clinics across eight states, extending our support to many more communities that have been affected by the hurricane.
Red Cross
Right now, we are working with our partners to get help to where it is needed across hundreds of miles from Florida to Tennessee. Red Cross disaster responders are traveling throughout affected communities, assessing damage and distributing meals and relief supplies. And for the families coming to our shelters at a complete loss, not knowing where to turn next, we're providing comfort and support to help through this unimaginable disaster – no one should have to face this alone.
Wine to Water
Located in Boone, NC, Wine to Water has sprung to action to help their affected community and also deployed their disaster response team to parts of Georgia. They are helping to distribute water filters and other essential supplies. Your financial support is critical as we know recovery is going to be a marathon, and the need is immense.
