While we all read headlines about a precarious ceasefire agreed today between Iran and Israel, thousands of Afghan refugees from Iran and Pakistan are flooding back into Afghanistan, a country already in humanitarian freefall.

Afghan refugee families are making impossible decisions—where to find their next meal, when to leave amid forced returns, and where they can safely settle.

Mercy Corps is launching a rapid response to support 8,000 Afghan households fleeing Iran and Pakistan with:

- Urgent water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) support

We are ramping up our humanitarian response that are hotspots for returnee arrivals.

These efforts build on our existing response, which has already reached nearly 100,000 people with food, cash, and shelter, and provided clean water to over 200,000 returnees from Pakistan.
